Take Back Our Hospitals

Days of Action in S/E Ontario, N/E Ontario and Scarborough/Durham

Southeastern Ontario Rally

Friday November 13, 12 p.m. Centennial Park, Trenton

Buses will be traveling in from the whole region. For more info on buses email us at ohc@sympatico.ca

Active citizens have succeeded in stopping cuts all across Ontario. Let’s bring a strong message to our region’s senior MPP, Lou Rinaldi in his constituency in Trenton asking him to bring it back to his caucus in the Liberal government: Ontarians insist that hospital cuts stop.

The health planning body for Southeastern Ontario is planning a major restructuring of all the hospitals from Perth/Smiths Falls to Brockville to Trenton and every town in between. They plan to cut services from local communities and centralize them into fewer towns. Patients will have to drive further for care and surgeries across the region will be reduced. Emergency and urgent care, acute care beds, surgeries, MRIs and CTs, laboratories and more will be impacted.

Northeastern Ontario Rally

Monday November 30, 12 p.m. @ Gateway Arch, Lee Park, North Bay

Buses will be traveling in from the whole region. For more information on buses email us at ohc@sympatico.ca

Active citizens have succeeded in stopping cuts all across Ontario. On November 30 join a giant rally in North Bay. At the same time we will have a delegation going to the Ontario Legislature to show live video footage of the rally to send a strong message to the Ontario government that the cuts must be stopped.

North Bay is facing among the worst hospital cuts in all Ontario. Services across Northeastern Ontario are being cut, forcing patients to drive further for the care and services they need.

Sponsored by: Ontario Health Coalition, local health coalitions across NE Ont.

Scarborough/Durham Rally

Saturday December 5, 12 p.m.

Office of MPP Brad Duguid, 2063 Lawrence Ave. E., Scarborough

Buses will be traveling in from the whole region. For more info on buses email us at ohc@sympatico.ca

Active citizens have succeeded in stopping hospital cuts all across Ontario.  On December 5 join a giant rally in Scarborough at the office of Brad Duguid, senior minister, and minister responsible for the P3 privatization of hospitals. The P3 privatization scheme has cost us billions to giant international  financial corporations and service privatizers even while government tells us we can no longer afford front-line care for patients.

After massive cuts to services and restructuring in recent years, including the loss of hundreds of staff positions, the government has appointed an “expert” panel to look again at restructuring. The Health Coalition uncovered a document filed with the government by the Scarborough Hospital CEO proposing to close one or two entire hospital sites – The Centenary and Birchmount – and replace all three Scarborough hospitals with one. So far, where that has happened in Ontario, the one hospital has had less total beds than the preceding hospitals combined. We are deeply concerned that the panel will recommend further cuts to services under the guise of moving these services to the community.
