{"id":13872,"date":"2020-07-17T16:42:34","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T20:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/?p=13872"},"modified":"2020-07-20T09:45:56","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T13:45:56","slug":"https-www-thespec-com-opinion-contributors-2020-07-08-ford-government-making-life-easier-for-ltc-operators-html","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/https-www-thespec-com-opinion-contributors-2020-07-08-ford-government-making-life-easier-for-ltc-operators-html\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Doug Ford\u2019s to blame for health-care mess"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(July 15, 2020)<\/p>\n<p>By: Bob Hepburn, The Record<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">There\u2019s a well-worn saying in the business world that you can\u2019t cut your way to greatness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">It applies equally well to Ontario\u2019s health-care system, which is struggling to cope under the unprecedented strains imposed by the current\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a class=\"text-block__link\" style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/thestar.com\/coronavirus\">COVID-19<\/a><\/span>\u00a0pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">As he launches a major campaign-style road show this week that will see him travel nearly 5,000 kilometres across the province this summer, Premier Doug Ford will be thanking beleaguered health-care workers for their dedication and hard work during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">Along the way he will also detailing (bragging?) about how he believes he has acted quickly and decisively in meeting the needs of doctors, nurses, therapists, personal support workers and others in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis and in fixing the province\u2019s struggling health-care system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">The reality, though, is something completely different.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">In fact, since taking office more than two years ago, Ford has made a long series of policy and funding moves that have worsened \u2014 not improved \u2014 the already underfunded and overloaded system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">Indeed, Ford\u2019s actions \u2014 all made with the clear goal of cutting costs \u2014 have produced few, if any positive results, with no money saved, no end to \u201challway medicine\u201d and no sign of better days ahead for patients.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-block-container\">And while the bandages Ford has hurriedly thrown at health care since the COVID-19 pandemic hit in February have helped a bit by momentarily easing the bleeding, they have failed to stop the pain inflicted by Ford since his election victory in June, 2018.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.therecord.com\/ts\/opinion\/star-columnists\/2020\/07\/15\/why-doug-fords-to-blame-for-health-care-mess.html\">Click here for original article<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(July 15, 2020) By: Bob Hepburn, The Record There\u2019s a well-worn saying in the business world that you can\u2019t cut your way to greatness.
