{"id":28539,"date":"2023-05-09T13:14:43","date_gmt":"2023-05-09T17:14:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/?p=28539"},"modified":"2023-05-23T13:16:02","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T17:16:02","slug":"ontario-passes-health-reform-bill-but-advocates-vow-to-keep-fighting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/ontario-passes-health-reform-bill-but-advocates-vow-to-keep-fighting\/","title":{"rendered":"ONTARIO PASSES HEALTH-REFORM BILL BUT ADVOCATES VOW TO KEEP FIGHTING"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(May 8th, 2023)<\/p>\n<p>By: Christine Ross,\u00a0Zoomer Radio<\/p>\n<p>Bill 60 has officially passed in the Ontario legislature that will allow more private clinics to offer some publicly funded surgeries and procedures in an effort to cut long wait lists for care.<\/p>\n<p>But advocates and the opposition like NDP leader Marit Stile have major concerns about the up-selling of medical services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder Doug Ford\u2019s plan, we\u2019re going to see more emergency rooms closing because there won\u2019t be enough staff to keep them open, we\u2019re going to have a two tier system where a select few are going to jump to the front of the line and everybody else is going to wait even longer,\u201d said Stiles.<\/p>\n<p>NDP health critic France G\u00e9linas says this is a sad day. \u201cA day that will go down in history in our province as the day the Ford government delivered a fatal blow to our treasured medicare,\u201dadded G\u00e9linas.<\/p>\n<p>And Natalie Mehra with the Ontario Health Coalition accuses the health minister of mincing her words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe health minister won\u2019t even say the words private clinic, she won\u2019t say independent health facilities, she won\u2019t say private, she won\u2019t say for profit, she keeps referring to them as community-based clinics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cataract surgeries and diagnostic imaging and testing will be expanded while the government will create an entirely new system to perform hip and knee replacement surgeries.<\/p>\n<p>Hospitals are concerned about losing staff to private clinics.
