It is designed to print either in black &amp; white or in colour. We also have a petition to the federal government, asking them to uphold the Canada Health Act and enforce it against the Ford government who are expanding private clinics and allowing them to extra-bill patients and charge user fees with impunity. This violates our Public Medicare laws that were created to protect patients from these charges. Local hospitals, in existence for 100 years, are now at risk of permanent closures.\u00a0If the Ford government chose, they could restore services by funding &amp; staffing\u00a0our public hospitals.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Lowest public hospital funding while <\/strong><strong>$ billions shifted to private health care<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30916 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"582\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart.png 1055w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart-1024x689.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/public-hospital-funding-per-province-2022-chart-768x517.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 582px) 100vw, 582px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ontario funds our public\u00a0hospitals at the lowest rate of any province.\u00a0At the same time, the Ford government\u00a0is redirecting more than a billion dollars\u00a0per year from our public taxes to fund private for-profit clinics &amp; staffing corporations.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>For-profit clinics charge patients $$ thousands in illegal (&amp; unethical) user fees for surgeries &amp; tests<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/leaflet-ontario-health-coalition-leaflet-petition-for-labour-day-events-and-market-tables\/mixed-race-female-patient-paying-medical-bill-at-dental-office\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30902\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30902 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-1303556623-2-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"323\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-1303556623-2-1-rotated.jpg 724w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-1303556623-2-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 323px) 100vw, 323px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Maureen needed eye surgery for macular degeneration so she wouldn\u2019t lose her vision. A private clinic charged her $7,000. She told us, \u201cBeing a senior on a fixed income, I\u2019m still trying to catch up with my bills from the surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This should NEVER happen.\u00a0The Ontario government is responsible for enforcing our medicare laws to protect patients like Maureen from extra-billing\u00a0&amp; user fees. Medically needed surgeries &amp; tests must be covered by OHIP. That\u2019s the law.<\/p>\n<p>Last spring, we made a <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/release-patient-advocates-file-formal-complaints-from-50-patients-call-for-urgent-action-to-stop-illegal-fees-in-private-clinics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/release-patient-advocates-file-formal-complaints-from-50-patients-call-for-urgent-action-to-stop-illegal-fees-in-private-clinics\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756490491631000&amp;usg=AOvVaw33_BFBoimXwc-blk4ZgdNO\">complaint to the Ford government<\/a><\/span> from\u00a050 patients &#8211; including Maureen &#8211; who were charged or manipulated into paying for medically unnecessary add ons\u00a0in private clinics. The patients should be reimbursed &amp; the clinics should be stopped.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re making another complaint this fall to push the Ford government to stop them. Today, we only have <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cihi.ca\/en\/access-data-and-reports\/data-tables?keyword=&amp;published_date=All&amp;type_of_care=All&amp;place_of_care=All&amp;population_group=All&amp;health_care_quality=All&amp;health_conditions_outcomes=All&amp;health_system_overview=All&amp;sort_by=field_published_date_value&amp;items_per_page=10&amp;page=1#:~:text=Hospital%20Beds%20Staffed%20and%20In%20Operation%2C%202023%E2%80%932024%20(XLSX)&amp;text=These%20figures%20represent%20the%20beds,beginning%20of%20the%20fiscal%20year.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cihi.ca\/en\/access-data-and-reports\/data-tables?keyword%3D%26published_date%3DAll%26type_of_care%3DAll%26place_of_care%3DAll%26population_group%3DAll%26health_care_quality%3DAll%26health_conditions_outcomes%3DAll%26health_system_overview%3DAll%26sort_by%3Dfield_published_date_value%26items_per_page%3D10%26page%3D1%23:~:text%3DHospital%2520Beds%2520Staffed%2520and%2520In%2520Operation%252C%25202023%25E2%2580%25932024%2520(XLSX)%26text%3DThese%2520figures%2520represent%2520the%2520beds,beginning%2520of%2520the%2520fiscal%2520year.&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756490491631000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3Ybcdblmt1s9z9ZY_LvxwJ\">35,000 for 16.2 million people<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/OECD-Hospital-Beds-Per-1000-Population-in-2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/OECD-Hospital-Beds-Per-1000-Population-in-2020.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756490491631000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3COjLNcY32EHX85nBjIsH4\">data from the OECD<\/a><\/span>, only Chile &amp; Mexico have fewer\u00a0hospital beds per person than Ontario.<\/p>\n<p>Why? Because everything they cut from public hospitals is privatized.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/u\/0?ui=2&amp;ik=ce6558c50e&amp;attid=0.1.8&amp;permmsgid=msg-f:1841722637930647523&amp;th=198f1cfb38a6cfe3&amp;view=fimg&amp;fur=ip&amp;permmsgid=msg-f:1841722637930647523&amp;sz=s0-l75-ft&amp;attbid=ANGjdJ-cKOWmuTAT9MA41FVCjhTiyYGrzb3mxO4PSNqw_qzbBolIiizsdul3v04PuWK72x_G7uUgOMP9g62TCyFMvrY6eboUqL7FoXNDSrWq4d7Ef9uIfcJCTy298J4&amp;disp=emb&amp;zw\" alt=\"\" data-image-whitelisted=\"\" data-bit=\"iit\" \/>NOTE:\u00a0A \u201chospital bed\u201d means a bed that is funded with nurses, doctors &amp; other staff providing care.\u00a0When they close down \u201cbeds\u201d it means they cut staff &amp; the care they provide.\u00a0Patients are backlogged in emergency departments because they are waiting for a funded bed to open up for them inside the hospital, while thousands of beds have been closed down &amp; could\u00a0be reopened.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Please send a message to Doug Ford: <\/strong><strong>You can\u2019t say you stand up for Canada while privatizing our health care<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/leaflet-ontario-health-coalition-leaflet-petition-for-labour-day-events-and-market-tables\/us-total-health-expenditure-per-capita-compared-to-canada-and-other-countries\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-30899\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30899 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/US-total-health-expenditure-per-capita-compared-to-canada-and-other-countries.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"435\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/US-total-health-expenditure-per-capita-compared-to-canada-and-other-countries.png 788w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/US-total-health-expenditure-per-capita-compared-to-canada-and-other-countries-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/US-total-health-expenditure-per-capita-compared-to-canada-and-other-countries-768x387.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The United States has the most privatized health care in the developed world. <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.healthsystemtracker.org\/chart-collection\/health-spending-u-s-compare-countries\/#Health%20expenditures%20per%20capita,%20U.S.%20dollars,%202023%20(current%20prices%20and%20PPP%20adjusted)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.healthsystemtracker.org\/chart-collection\/health-spending-u-s-compare-countries\/%23Health%2520expenditures%2520per%2520capita,%2520U.S.%2520dollars,%25202023%2520(current%2520prices%2520and%2520PPP%2520adjusted)&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756490491631000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2qO-TBzgRhlPK6s5ef6EYz\">Americans pay almost double our costs for care<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Ford government is privatizing more\u00a0&amp; more of our long-term care and hospital surgeries &amp; diagnostics. They\u2019re giving primary care to for-profit chains, privatizing Public Health services like COVID testing, vaccines &amp; more. They\u2019re allowing private clinics to bill OHIP &amp; charge patients on top. They\u2019re moving toward U.S.-style for-profit health care.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. for-profit hospitals charge exorbitant prices. Businesses face high insurance costs for employees. On top, employees pay\u00a0co-payments every paycheque plus they have to pay deductibles before coverage kicks in&#8230;IF they are covered. They bill OHIP &amp; charge patients fees on top.
