{"id":31422,"date":"2026-04-26T12:26:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T16:26:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/?p=31422"},"modified":"2026-04-28T12:36:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T16:36:17","slug":"protest-in-barrie-against-cuts-to-health-care-funding-and-transparency-at-queens-park-5-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca\/index.php\/protest-in-barrie-against-cuts-to-health-care-funding-and-transparency-at-queens-park-5-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Protest in Barrie against cuts to health-care funding and transparency at Queen\u2019s Park (5 photos)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(April 25, 2026) By: Kevin Lamb, BarrieToday.com<\/p>\n<p><em>The Ontario Health Coalition also planned protests on Saturday in Ottawa, Windsor, St. Catherines <\/em>[sic]<em>, Port Colborne, Kitchener-Waterloo, City of Kawartha Lakes and nearby Elmvale<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Around 40 protesters mobilized by the Ontario Health Coalition, a public interest group fighting against healthcare cuts, voiced their concerns about Ontario Premier Doug Ford&#8217;s policies on Saturday at the corner of Mapleview Drive East and Bayview Drive in Barrie.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of several planned protests on Saturday throughout Ontario and organizers say the demonstrations this weekend are the first in a series.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s main beef is to demand the Ford government to not privatize hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario Health Coalition says they advocate &#8220;to protect and improve public health care, fight against cuts, closures, privatization and for democratic decision-making, public control and improved care for all under the principles of the Canada Health Act.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s horrid that we aren&#8217;t funding appropriately \u2026 and a lack of funding is just holding us all back,\u201d Wendy Bradley, a member of the Ontario Health Coalition and one of the coordinators of the Barrie protest told <em>BarrieToday<\/em> at the event.<\/p>\n<p>She is also raising concerns with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrietoday.com\/local-news\/barrie-teens-join-provincewide-protest-rallying-against-osap-cuts-11989632\">the cutting of OSAP<\/a> (Ontario Student Assistance Program), general affordability and the recent controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barrietoday.com\/ontario-news\/ford-says-ontario-has-sold-controversial-private-jet-at-no-loss-12176990\">purchase of a private jet\u00a0for the premier\u2019s use<\/a>, which was then sold by the government after public backlash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTalk about wasting our taxpayers money. I want transparency,\u201d Bradley said.<\/p>\n<p>With busy Saturday traffic on Mapleview Drive, there was a steady stream of honking by drivers passing the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>How does that support make Bradley feel?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood,\u201d she said. \u201cThere are other people in our ridings that aren&#8217;t happy with what&#8217;s going on.
