COBOURG\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span>Now that the Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) support rally is behind her, Judy Sherwin says she is not planning anymore action at this time.<\/p>\n
But she has signed a petition initiated by the Northumberland Chapter of the Ontario Health Coalition and says there are more available to sign, and for those who would like to circulate them, at United TV and Stereo on Division Street in Cobourg.<\/p>\n
Upwards of 60 people participated in the April 23 rally on supporting staff and services at the hospital in Cobourg in the face of downsizing of staff as part of hospital restructuring.<\/p>\n
From the sounds of vehicles honking their horns, there were a lot of people supporting those rallying to gain attention to the hospital\u2019s plight at the intersection of Burnham Street and DePalma Drive (on the western boundary of the hospital lands), Sherwin said in an interview.<\/p>\n
People \u201cfloated in and out\u201d of the rally which included local health coalition members, including its co-chair, Linda Mackenzie-Nicholas, Sherwin said.<\/p>\n
Signatures are still being collected for the petition that will be presented to the Ontario government, she also said. In part, it asks that proposed cuts to NHH be stopped and that the standards of care at the hospital be protected, as well as an improvement in overall funding to hospitals across Ontario by \u201cincreasing funding to at least the level of other provinces.\u201d<\/p>\n
