(Photo courtesy of Chris Bright)<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad-300\" data-adtype=\"box\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1378213061674-2\" data-google-query-id=\"CJO2wb69hdsCFQOEaQodyAQHqA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/25616356\/BBN_Chatham_MediumBox_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>With provincial election campaigns in full swing, the chair of the\u00a0Chatham-Kent Registered Nurses\u2019 Association of Ontario (RNAO) is concerned local candidates may not have a real plan to address health care funding.<\/p>\n<p>The Chatham-Kent Health Coalition partnered with the RNAO to hold an all-candidates debate for the Chatham-Kent Leamington riding on Thursday.\u00a0The debate, which was held at Smitty\u2019s Family Restaurant in Chatham, focused on\u00a0health care issues in the local region.<\/p>\n<p>Four candidates for Chatham-Kent-Leamington participated \u2014 incumbent Rick Nicholls (Ontario PC party), Jordan McGrail (Ontario NDP), Margaret Schleier Stahl (Ontario Liberal Party) and Mark Vercouteren (Green Party).<\/p>\n<p>Chatham-Kent Health Coalition Chairperson Shirley Roebuck said while may questions were asked of the candidates, not all of the important issues were addressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think any of the candidates told the audience how they were going to fund health care,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cFor instance, the PCs say they are going to cut $6-billion out of the the budget and yet they\u2019re going cut taxes for everyone and eliminate the carbon tax. Now, how can they pay for health care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roebuck added that she didn\u2019t think \u201cthe Liberals were forthcoming with any real plans to increase funding so that we could have better health care here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Green Party stated that health care took up the biggest chunk of the budget in Ontario,\u201d she said. \u201cBut they don\u2019t know that the tax coffers in Ontario are low because of the all of the tax cuts the Liberal government has given,\u201d says Roebuck. \u201cThe NDP just didn\u2019t say specifically how funds would be raised\u2026 I do believe that the NDP does have a plan, but I didn\u2019t hear it tonight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the lack of clarity on the topic of health\u00a0care funding,\u00a0Roebuck said she was very pleased with the debate and the turnout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are passionate about health care and it\u2019s a difficult subject because if you\u2019re young and healthy, you don\u2019t really care about what\u2019s going on at hospitals.
