The amalgamation could including delivery of clinical and frontline services, back-office functions, leadership and governance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"story-ad\">\n<section id=\"div-gpt-gnca-ads-6872-300250-2\" class=\"ad is-loaded\" data-google-query-id=\"CKmmov2hwt0CFQNnAQod2jQG7w\" data-load-time=\"1537195098443\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/6872\/shaw.globalnews.ca\/hospital-amalgamation\/4449783\/gdavischex_4__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/video\/4437816\/ontario-health-coalition-warns-of-hospital-amalgamation-consequences\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ontario Health Coalition warns of hospital amalgamation consequences<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The hospitals over the summer have conducted public consultations prior to submitting a joint proposal to the Central East Local Health Integration Network this fall.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition told the audience that hospital amalgamations come with new problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen they amalgamate hospitals, it\u2019s one hospital across multiple sites,\u201d said coalition executive director Natalie Mehra.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/4302272\/peterborough-lindsay-hospitals-propose-intergration-single-hospital-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peterborough and Lindsay hospitals propose integration into single hospital network<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo all the birthing goes to one site; all the surgeries to one site; all the long-term beds, all the chronic care beds all go to one site. And the people end up having to drive from town to town to town to access their services.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s really the death of the community hospital as we know it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The coalition cited the Niagara region as an example where patients travel to the hospital in St. Catharines for surgery but go to Port Colborne or Fore Erie further away for chronic care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you take all the chronic care beds, as is likely to happen, and put them over in Lindsay, all the seniors who want to visit loved ones every day will have to drive to Lindsay to do that,\u201d she said. \u201cThis has happened in every single place where amalgamation has taken place in Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roy Brady, president of the Peterborough chapter of the OHC, says the bigger concern for residents is the threat of the transfer of services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUncertainty, number one,\u201d he said. \u201cNumber two, the threat that services will be transferred from one hospital to another, otherwise they would just have two hospitals. So something has to change, and we\u2019re concerned about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officials with both hospitals told CHEX News they want to wait till the official stakeholder engagement process resumes this month before making comment.<\/p>\n<p><a
