It’s taking place Saturday at the museum<\/p>\n

With provincial legislation changes on the way for healthcare, a town hall meeting this weekend is talking about what it could mean.<\/p>\n

The Ontario Health Coalition event is Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at the Timmins Museum.<\/p>\n

Bill 74, the People’s Health Care Act, was introduced at the end of February.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the big fear is the\u00a0privatization of some services, so people might think that they lead to shorter wait times, where in fact they\u2019ve shown in other countries that private clinics are a harder strain on the public service as the doctors move over to the private sector,\u201d said local organizer Ed Stecewicz.<\/p>\n

For Saturday’s meeting, he said Ontario Health Coalition representatives\u00a0will be making a presentation and taking questions.<\/p>\n

When Stecewicz read about the organization’s town halls taking place across the province, he called and asked them to stop in Timmins.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m here because of our public healthcare system, that\u2019s why I\u2019m devoted to the Ontario Health Council, I want people to know what could be coming down the line,” he said.<\/p>\n

He said the meeting is for everyone \u2014 from healthcare workers to people who believe deeply in the public healthcare system.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople might think it\u2019s a done thing, but if enough people speak out it\u2019s been proven in the past that government\u2019s have either paused or stopped,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you talk about change, it starts with the people, we always say it does. If some people say, well I can\u2019t do anything I\u2019m only one person. But if we all stand up and say something, then strength in numbers.”<\/p>\n
