The Ontario Health Coalition is calling out the Ford government for health care cuts made in Niagara and Hamilton.
The group says residents are facing ‘unconscionable’ wait times as hundreds of health care workers are laid off at Niagara Health and Hamilton Health Sciences.
The coalition says hospitals across Ontario have been forced into deficit because the Ford government set funding levels that are inadequate to meet their populations’ needs.
“What the Ford government is doing here is unconscionable. These hospitals should not be seeing cuts, they should be seeing major expansions of services to address their overcrowding and long waits,” said Natalie Mehra, executive director of the Ontario Health Coalition.
Mehra says they know of 700 staffing cuts between the two organizations.
