The Ontario Health Coalition (OHC) is concerned about the Province’s inaction regarding long-term care facilities.
In a release, the OHC expressed concerns regarding several deaths of long-term care facility residents for preventable reasons such as malnutrition and insufficient care.
Some facilities were in such bad shape, the military had to be sent in. Others formed partnerships to address staffing issues with nearby hospitals.
Additionally, the OHC is emphatically opposed to Bill 175, which would limit families’ ability to launch class-action lawsuits against private companies, like for-profit long-term care home, which is set to enter Third Reading as early as June 24.
The OHC has already organized several virtual protests in relation to the Bill, which have not yielded the desired results.
Because of this, the OHC is now planning several in-person protests across the province.
For those who wish to attend, masks will be mandatory, and all participants will be required to maintain a two-metre distance from others.
A protest is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 on the lawn in front of Queen’s in Toronto
Further, several other Ontario cities will be hosting their own protests, including Chatham, Guelph, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Niagara, Port Hope, Sarnia, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Woodstock.
