CBC Radio’s All In A Day invited two active members of the Ottawa Health Coalition to identify what they want candidates to address about long term care in this election? With her mom currently in LTC, Betty Yakimenko (4:24 mark) identifies staffing shortages, poor wages and lack of time to provide adequate care as some of the existing gaps in LTC. Kevin Skerrett is calling for the transfer of the federal government’s private ownership of Revera Inc. into the public domain (8:17 mark). Both Betty and Kevin are calling on candidates to integrate LTC into the public health system within or similar to the federal Canada Health Act to ensure universal and accessible care where profits are no longer being extracted
