Nearly 100 supporters attended a meeting Saturday to kick off the Windsor-Essex Health Coalition’s campaign to fight the threatened loss of thoracic cancer surgery in the area.
As part of the campaign, volunteers vow to knock on 40,000 doors throughout the community to collect signatures and information from individuals about what they’d like to see the future of health care look like.
“I think this will paint the exact landscape that this community and every community in the province of Ontario, I believe, is committed to maintaining – strong publicly funded and accessible health care services,” said coalition co-chair Richard Laverty. “And also, that communities want a wide range of services to be provided at their hospitals. I think that this campaign will show that there’s obviously support for that type of health care system.”
Several hundred are expected to participate in the door-to-door campaign, which began Saturday afternoon and will go until Dec. 13, said Laverty.
