‘Fight Ford’ Demonstration at MPP Paul Vickers’ Office September 26

The monthly Fight Ford protest series reaches Owen Sound on Saturday, outside the constituency office of MPP Paul Vickers. Organizers are calling for Ford’s resignation.
Organizers of the Fight Ford protest series have called a demonstration in Owen Sound on Saturday morning, outside the constituency office of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers.
The poster for the Owen Sound event carries the demand “Ford must resign.” Promotional material circulated to supporters asks people to turn out “against the Ford government’s agenda” without naming specific policies.
Fight Ford has run province-wide days of action roughly monthly since April, at more than 50 locations at their peak, most of them outside Progressive Conservative constituency offices. Grey-Bruce locations have included Meaford Hall and MPP Lisa Thompson’s Kincardine office in June. The series is coordinated through a provincial Facebook page and the website protestdougford.com.
Vickers is a Progressive Conservative and serves as parliamentary assistant to the minister of agriculture, food and agribusiness. His office is open Monday to Friday and closed on Saturdays.
Healthcare has been raised at several earlier demonstrations in this region. The Grey Bruce Health Coalition — a different organization, and a branch of the Ontario Health Coalition — released a report in Walkerton on September 15 finding both MRI machines at Owen Sound Regional Hospital shut down overnight on weekdays, and operating rooms in Meaford, Southampton and Wiarton running part-time, while the province funds new private clinics.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones and Brightshores Health System did not respond to the Current’s questions about that report.
