Government shows a lack of respect

Today, I participated in the Ontario Health Coalition‘s virtual rally for long-term care homes while question period at the Ontario legislature was broadcast via Zoom and Facebook.
Opposition MPPs peppered Conservative MPPs with questions about long-term care that had been submitted by LTC families.
Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton were absent from question period. They did not even have the respect for LTC families and workers to show up.
The Conservatives only had a few speaking points: 1) The situation in LTC homes is all the fault of previous governments, although they have not begun to fix the problems; 2) They are building more LTC beds (with no way to staff them); 3) They are hiring more staff (in four years).
Families’have questions surrounded LTC staffing. There were multiple questions about resident dehydration and neglect, about the failure of the provincial government to act after the military report, and questions about Ford’s ignoring of the Conservatives’own LTC commission report.
My heart broke for residents and families who have been so negatively affected by COVID-19, yet when they asked for explanations they got political gobbledygook.
Remember these acts of disrespect in 2022, everyone. Remind the Ford government that we will not forget!
