Hamilton’s hospitals are short $177 million this fiscal year, prompting St. Joseph’s Healthcare to cut 62 jobs.

Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) refused to provide any information about the number of jobs it has eliminated as it faces a deficit for the fifth straight year.

“They’re hiding information that it makes no sense to hide” said Natalie Mehra, executive director of the Ontario Health Coalition, which advocates to protect and improve the health-care system. “Hospitals should be accountable to their communities, and it’s in the public interest that people understand the impact of budget reductions.”
