Demand National Standards for Long-Term Care

Key Demands

• Accountability
  Ensure provinces are accountable for ensuring that LTC is safe and care needs of the residents are met.
• Standard of Care
  Provide a standard of care with enough hours of care for a safe and secure environment for LTC residents to meet their physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural needs.
• Equity
  Provide for equal access to quality long-term care to meet the needs of the elderly across Canada.
• Meaningful Input
  LTC homes are the homes of their residents. Formal consultation and engagement processes for residents and families must be required so that they have meaningful input planning and evaluation of LTC across Canada.
• Comfortable Living
  Building and retrofitting new and existing long-term care homes that remove the four-bed room in favour of rooms with no more than two beds.
