A health advocacy group in Ontario is calling for the armed forces to once again intervene in the long-term care crisis.

The Ontario Health Coalition, which represents patients and health-care workers, says that while it isn’t their first choice, there aren’t many options while the outbreaks grow.

Across the province, 2,822 coronavirus-related deaths have been linked to long-term care homes. Of those, eight were health care workers.

At least 52 residents have died at one home in Scarborough. North York Hospital has now taken over some administrative duties at Tendercare Living Centre.

In Durham, 202 deaths have been linked to long-term care and retirement homes.

The region reports 22 ongoing outbreaks in homes and hospitals.
