People having concerns about long-term care in Ontario will have the opportunity to learn more Tuesday, July 28.

Sudbury MPP Jamie West (New Democrat) will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting on his official Facebook page.

The event is scheduled to run between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will focus on the many issues about long-term care as they relate to the COVID-19 pandemic. A news release from West’s office said he will be joined by three panellists:

Terry Martyn, Family Council Co-Chair for Pioneer Manor;

Maria Casas, RNAO local member and,

NDP MPP Teresa Armstrong, critic for Home Care and Long-Term Care.

One of the issues likely to arise during the event is the call to action that came out this week from the Ontario Health Coalition, which says despite all the promises for improvements at long-term care homes, there is still “an emergency shortage” of staff to work in those homes.  The issue was outlined in a posting on West’s Facebook page.

Tuesday’s event is live and open to the public.
